Welcome to Goalie. These terms explain how to use the app responsibly.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. By agreeing to these Terms, you represent and warrant that you are at least 13 and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement.

2. Account Registration

  1. Account creation. To access certain features (e.g., journaling, goal tracking), you must register for an account and provide a valid email address.
  2. Security. You are responsible for safeguarding your password and any activity that occurs under your account.

3. User Content

  1. Your journal entries & goals. You retain all rights to the text, data, and content you submit ("User Content").
  2. License to Goalie. By submitting User Content, you grant Goalie a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and display your entries solely for the purposes of providing the service to you (including AI-powered messaging). This license automatically terminates when you delete your content or close your account.
  3. Responsibility. You are solely responsible for your User Content. Do not submit anything you do not have rights to or that violates any law.

4. AI-Generated Content

  1. Nature of content. The App uses AI to generate motivational messages and weekly summaries. These outputs are for inspirational purposes only.
  2. No professional advice. AI messages are not medical, legal, or financial advice. Always seek a qualified professional for such matters.

5. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose.
  • Harass, threaten, or defame others.
  • Interfere with the App’s operation or security.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, hack, or scrape the App.

6. Intellectual Property

All intellectual property rights in the App (excluding your User Content) are owned by Goalie or its licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our prior written consent.

7. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information. By using the App, you consent to our data practices as described there.

8. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. GOALIE DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GOALIE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING UNDER THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO GOALIE IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR $100 IF YOU ARE USING A FREE VERSION OF THE APP.

10. Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for your User Content and agree not to submit content that infringes on others' rights or violates applicable laws. You agree not to use the App in any way that causes harm to others or to the service itself.

11. Termination

  1. By You. You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time through the App settings.
  2. By Us. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms. Where reasonably possible, we will provide advance notice and an opportunity to export your data. We reserve the right to terminate immediately for serious violations such as illegal activity, security threats, or abuse of the service.
  3. Effect of Termination. Upon termination, your right to use the App will cease, and we may delete your data in accordance with our data retention policies.

12. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising under or relating in any way to these Terms or the App will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California. However, if you are a consumer residing in a jurisdiction that prohibits exclusive jurisdiction clauses, this provision may not apply to you, and you may have additional rights under local consumer protection laws.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you via the App or by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the App after the changes become effective constitutes your acceptance. If you don't agree to the changes, you may delete your account before they take effect.

14. Data Portability & Deletion

  1. Export Your Data. You may request a copy of your User Content at any time through the App or by contacting us.
  2. Delete Your Account. You may delete your account and associated data at any time through the App settings. Upon deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention).

15. Payments & Refunds

If you purchase a paid subscription:

  1. Payment Processing. All purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
  2. Auto-Renewal. Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
  3. Manage Subscriptions. You can manage and cancel subscriptions by going to your account settings on the App Store after purchase.
  4. Refunds. All refunds are handled exclusively by Apple according to their App Store policies. We do not process refunds directly. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com or contact Apple Support.
  5. Changes to Pricing. We may change subscription prices with at least 30 days' notice. Price changes will apply to subsequent subscription periods.

16. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
